New Year’s in Jacksonville

As Kyllan mentioned, we spent New Year’s in Jacksonville. We arrived on Thursday the 27th and had dinner with my parents. On Friday we attended an annual ball thrown by the Kappas, Deltas and Omegas called “The Gala.” Saturday Kyllan’s parents arrived in Jacksonville and we attended the wedding of a high school friend of mine. Sunday my parents hosted a holiday reception where Kyllan and I were the guest of honor. On Monday my parents hosted a New Year’s Eve party for an organization they belong to, which has become a yearly event.

We had a great time in Jacksonville. Due to the blizzard last year, it had been over two years since I had been back. It was amazing to see how much has changed. As you can imagine, the weekend was packed. I got to see a lot of old friends, Kyllan meet a lot of new faces and we got to spend time with both sets of parents. The reception my parents threw was wonderful. My mom really wanted to give friends who were not able to make it to the wedding in Dallas to have a chance to meet Kyllan. So many of the of the people there I hadn’t seen in years. Even for those that did make the wedding, I see them so seldomly and talked with them so briefly, it felt like it had been years. Being in Jacksonville also gave the seven of us (me, Kyllan and both sets of parents and my grandmother, who was visiting for the holidays) the chance to bring in the new year together. Pictures from the weekend are on my flickr photostream.

  1. I enjoyed looking at the pictures. If you don’t find stockings you like, let me know what you want them to look like and I could make some for you…really.

  2. Um…I guess that would be a yes. Since it has something to do with colors and decorating, maybe Kyllan should help me out.

Here are some ideas–these are kind of country, but I would make them with velvet (or fabric I got from Granny’s old stash)

I don’t know what you guys like either, but when it’s custom made it can be any way you want it.

If you like things more simple–potterybarn.com has a bunch on clearance right now.

Just email me before Thanksgiving to let me know πŸ™‚

  3. Nikki- how thoughtful of you to offer to do that! While I would love having one of your creations, I really don’t want you to feel obligated to do that, but I would certainly love to have something made by a family member. William’s mom is actually sending us stockings in the mail that she found after hearing we couldn’t find any, so we will have some for next year. I guess the answer is… we would love for you to make some for us, but don’t feel pressured to do so. As fa as the design…William is much pickier than I am πŸ™‚

  4. When I offer to make something there is no obligation involved–only desire. I love to make things, I love to give gifts and if it’s for family and friend all the better. If you’re getting stockings there is no need to make any, so I’ll save the desire to make you guys something for another project. πŸ™‚

  5. Like Nikki, I was concerned about the “no Christmas stockings” comment on the blog, so when I went out shopping after Christmas, I bought two Christmas stockings on sale. They have already been sent. They should be delivered today. Yes William, your mother is sending Christmas stockings because I know what a tradition it has been in our family to hang Christmas stockings. I got them for a very good price so you don’t have to feel any attachment to them but I just wanted to make sure you had stockings next year.

  6. Ricky made me a working build-a-bear and I thought it was so cute! He named it Beary Mason. Complete with a briefcase, glasses and a cell phone. I didn’t think about the different spin on it now that we’re having a baby. Interesting.
