So, the new television season is upon us. What new shows are you guys excited about? Studio 60: Sunset Strip and Jericho seem to be getting the most hype. Kyllan was not impressed with the premier of Studio last night. I thought it was just okay. I probably check out Heroes and Friday Night Lights. Of course the best show on television, The Wire, has returned for a 4th season. I’ll be watching NCIS tonight. Kyllan likes Grey’s Anatomy. They get points for having multiple positive black characters, one whose back story includes attending Tulane for medical school, but I still don’t care for it… Can you think of another show with more than one intelligent black character? (Currently on the air, so the Cosby Show doesn’t count.)
Speaking of the Cosby Show — how come with all the new shows on, we still end up watching the Cosby Show reruns!
I watched the Rachel Ray talk show today — she was annoying, but it was great to see Oprah on a talk show!
I hate to admit it, but I am very excited for America’s Next Top Model tomorrow!

I watch the Cosby Show reruns all the time and laugh like I have never seen the episode before, which is a true indicator of a good show.
I am looking forward to America’s Next Top Model too. It is just interesting to watch.
I can’t wait until Thursday for Grey’s Anatomy. Great show! I think Desperate Housewives should have a good season as well. Beyond that…. I have not decided what I am going to watch this season. I wasn’t too impressed with Studio 60 last night, but I will watch the next episode to see if I get hooked. Oh… Bridezillas! That show brings you back to normalcy quick when it comes to planning a wedding. Those brides are crazy! William got me hooked on 24, but that doesn’t start up again until January. sigh. If anyone has some favorites this season, feel free to share!
Oh… to answer William’s question about positive black characters… what ever happened to Boston Public? It was the show about the inner city high school in Boston that used to come on Fox. They just yanked that show off the air with no warning. I actually enjoyed it, but apparantly someone did not.
I use to watch Top Model with Kyllan. I gave up after they kept tormenting the one big girl every season. Every episode they tell her she is fat and then finally they cut her and say it is because they don’t see the same enthusiasm they saw previously. I wonder why?
I can’t wait for the next season of 24. I plan to get Kyllan hooked on The Wire next.
Ray is no Martha Stewart. Insider Trading? She just had the hook up… Patricia Dunn is getting screwed too.
I’ll give Kyllan 1.5 for Boston Public. The principal=1. One black woman was the stereotypical big black woman with an attitude, so she doesn’t count. The other had no story line or arch. She was really an ancillary character.
Ohhh, forgot about Desperate Housewives. We love The Office here! Never miss it!
The Wire has multiple positive black characters. I didn’t think of it before because the show is more about the city than it is the characters.
Here are my thoughts young lads. The Wire & MNF(it counts)-best shows on the planet. I can’t wait for the new seasons of 24 and Run’s House (Who’s House). In addition to the Cosby Show, Fresh Prince, and A Different World, I now watch reruns of Law & Order (thanks to my fiancee). By the way, Maya would agree with your picks Kyllan (two TVs are becoming a necessity nowadays).
Yeah… William will probably get me hooked on the Wire. I will have to put it in my Netflix queue. Jamaal, I like Run’s house as well and I watched Making the Band when that used to come on. I actually bought their CD! It’s pretty good in my opinion. Law & Order is a good show too even though I haven’t watched it in a while. SVU was my favorite, followed by the regular Law and Order and then Criminal Intent. In college, my linesister Crystal got me hooked on watching the re-runs on TNT.
Apparently the first hour of Grey’s Anatomy tonight is a recap of last season. I don’t like when networks do that… just get to the show! I am watching it with some of my co-workers, but still TIVOing it so I don’t miss anything.
Jericho was alright. I’ll have to see another episode to decide if I am going to continue watching it. I was shocked, SHOCKED, thet America’s Next Top Model asked the girls to pose nude… You know, like they do every season. Do any of the girls watch the show. They should have known it was coming. I only watch Run’s house because of Kyllan. I think Run and his wife send the wrong messages to thier kids.
LOL about being SHOCKED that the girls were asked to pose nude. Big surprise. I just can’t wait for the makeover show — hopefully that will be next week.
I really didn’t like the obvious conflict setup — only 11 beds for 13 girls — come on, you could be a bit more subtle!
I am excited about the following shows (in no particular order):
1) Grey’s Anatomy-For the reasons mentioned. There are multiple black characters and the producer is black. I like the diversity in cast members.
2) Dancing With the Stars-This is my guilty pleasure. I love anything related to ballroom dance.
3) CSI-for obvious reasons.
4) Desperate Housewives
5) Brothers and Sisters-This show seems very interesting. The father suddenly dies just as the older daughter discovers that he is having an affair and the family business is taking a nosedive.
