Finally! Kyllan now has an iPhone. Well… sort of. Her company phone is now an iPhone. I have been amazed by how much she likes it. She spent the weekend trying out a bunch of different apps; Some which I recommended and others she found on her own. For the iPhone users out there, which apps do you like? My favorite apps are listed below.
WeatherBug: Weather Forcast (Kyllan prefers AccuWeather’s app)
Tipulator: calculates how to split the check & tip for a large party (at $0.99, it is my only paid app)
USA Today & Mobile News: News
Yelp: Location based restaurant guide and reviews(Kyllan perfers open table, which I haven’t used yet)
Flixster: Location based movie times
iPhlix: Netflix queue management
Lose It!: Meal Diary with a nice graphic user interface.
Tripit: Trip itinararies from Tripit.com , which I think is a great site.
Bloomberg: Stocks: It’s more advanced then the deafult Apple stock app
Amazon: Amazon.com’s app. I like to compare prices when I am out and about
Not sure if the app is on the iPhone, but I love my google MAPS application for my blackberry! It’s saved me from printing out mapquest directions. Plus, the GPS feature is nice so if I manage to get off track the app knows exactly where I am.
I’m also a fan of Twitterberry. It’s nice to make and check updates on the go.
Google maps is one of the default apps on the iPhone. It also comes with calander, address book, weather, stock, notepad, calculator, photo and google search apps. The ones I mentioned in the post all have to be downloaded. I use a GPS in my car as well, so I rarely use it the google maps app.
Which Blackberry do you have?
BigOven has the best recipes!!! Kyle has made some pretty amazing fish tacos from there. There is also an app that teaches Kenn her animal sounds that is pretty cool. Its like see ‘n say for an iPhone!!!
While I don’t think we will be trying the animal sound app anytime soon, I might try the bigoven app.
I am loving me new iphone 🙂
My favorite app so far is Open Table. I have been using Open Table for a while via their website, but I like the option to use this app when I am away from the computer. I actually used Open Table to make dinner reservations for William’s birthday. The app is like the website and will show you available reservation times and depending on the restaurant, you can view the menu to see if there is something that appeals to you.
Jos- I will have to check out BigOven. I have All recipes and actually used it to buy groceries and make a chicken and spinach lasagna this past Sunday.
Med Obsession- I haven’t really used the Google Maps, but I do have a GPS system in my car, so I am usually good to go. I think William and I may have used that app on his phone one weekend in Denver when we were exploring downtown and looking for a place for lunch. We used Yelp and then Google Maps.
I also like the Tripit, which is good for managing info on travel plans. I will be making a few trips over the next few weeks, so this is very handy. In the past, I am always trying to go back through old e-mail to find my itinerary, but with this App, it is always available and you can pull gate info, flight status, weather, maps, and contact info for the airlines. Very cool app. The online version is great also.
Although the apps are great, my favorite favorite feature has to do with e-mail. I get close to 100 e-mails each day on my work account (this excludes the other e-mail accounts I have)… i know… crazy. So, I am constantly having to check e-mail. I was able to check e-mail on my old phone, but it was very difficult to open attachments (which I get a lot of as well). The ease of using e-mail and opening attachments is fantastic! The only thing I don’t like is the inability to change certain e-mail settings (like the tone played when an e-mail arrives or the ability to set different signatures for each e-mail account you have set up on the phone).
All in all… I really love it. My Blackjack II(my other cell phone… yes… i still have tw0), is becoming pretty useless now except for the basic phone feature.
