24!

I don’t know how William nor I did not post about this earlier, but tonight starts the 2-day, 4 hour season premiere of 24, the best show on television! I highly recommend watching it if you are looking for a new television addiction. Actually, if you have not been watching, you need to become a member of Netflix immediately and start renting the DVD starting from season 1. Warning: you will not be able to stop watching, so don’t plan to watch one or two episodes and then stop…it is truly an addiction!

p.s. Please do not make any specific comments about the show until after 11pmEST.  William is in Denver and it does not come on until 7pm Mountain time, so I don’t want anyone to spoil it for him.

Turbo Kick!

So.. yesterday for the first time in 4 months, I returned to the gym and began working out again. Yea me! I am really glad that I did because I have realized how much I enjoyed going to the gym and how much it helps me to relieve stress. I used to enjoy working out on the elliptical machine, but last year I discovered the turbo kickboxing class they have at the gym I go to, Lifetime Fitness (love this gym!). Not only is the class a great workout, it is a fun class and keeps me motivated to go to the gym and I never thought I would enjoy kickboxing. Yes… I know that somehow my motivation was lost for 4 months, but one of the reasons was that after moving, I am now 20 minutes away from the gym as opposed to 5 minutes. There are a few other reasons as well, but I won’t go into that now. The start of a new year is always a good time to start afresh, so I decided to go back to working out again. I hope now I will keep my motivation to go. I am already contemplating whether to enter a group fitness challenge to lose up to 10lbs and 10 inches in 10 days by committing to working out for 10 consecutive days and eating healthier foods, although I think the goal of the challenge is to develop habits and establish healthier eating patterns than to just lose weight. It starts next Tuesday. If I chose to participate, I will keep everyone updated on my progress. I doubt I would lose 10 lbs, but any loss is good. My goal is to lose 10-15lbs over the next few months and then maintain it from there, so if I can jump start it with this, that would be great. I have several clothes that are not fitting as well as they did before, so it would be great for them to fit like they did when I first purchased them. Not to mention that all important dress that I need to make sure I fit into on September 8th! However, it is more about getting in shape and trying to stay healthy. (WARNING: girly comment ahead) It is just me or does it seem like once you hit 25, all the weight begins going straight to your thighs! Ahh! Hopefully my body at age 27 will treat me a little better this year. I hope anyone else with fitness goals is successful as well! I definitely recommend finding a class you like and using that to motivate you. Classes keep you on a schedule and helps the time pass much faster.

No Florida Sunshine :-(

Well… it looks like William’s holiday plans have been pretty much turned upside down this year. As you saw in a previous post, after getting caught in Denver for a snow storm and having his flight canceled, he decided to make he long 14 hour drive to Dallas. He planned to spend Christmas here and we would both leave on the 29th to spend New Year’s weekend in Jacksonville with his parents and attend their New Year’s Eve party as we did last year. Well… those plans went out the window (or should I saw washed down he sewer) following torrential rain in Dallas that closed the airport for a period of time and led to several flight cancellations, including our flight. We soon found out after several phone calls to Continental’s 800 number and waiting in line at the ticket counter for 2 hours to see if we could get re-booked, and about 5 hours total at the airport that the only option for getting to Jacksonville was on Sunday, so we decided to not go through the headaches and hassles and just stay in Dallas for New Year’s. That is the abbreviated version. I do not feel up to talking about the unprofessionalism of the continental staff (mainly one person in particular who screamed and yelled and could care less about the stranded passengers). So it looks like we will be making other New Year’s celebration plans. On the positive side, at least we are together and don’t have to spend the holiday alone, but the Florida sunshine sure would have been nice, not to mention the chance for William to spend time with his parents. Hopefully next year things will be much smoother!

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday to my mom, Sandra. She turns another year older today, but she could probably pass for many years younger. The women in my family tend to age well! Unlike most normal people, my mom requested NOTHING for her birthday this year. Now… I know what you are saying…. “oh, she is just saying that, but doesn’t really mean it.” Well, think again. My sister and I offered several gift ideas to her, but she refused them ALL, including a night at the Ritz Carlton. She finally decided that she wanted two magazine subscriptions.
Have a great Birthday mom. I love you!

p.s. on behalf of my mom, I will send a special birthday wish to Denzel Washington, who is also celebrating a birthday today.

One cute couple! :-)

William and I took engagement photos a few weeks ago and they are now available for viewing and purchase for anyone who is interested. Follow this link and click online proofs to view all the photos. I have to warn you that there are about 400 photos, so it may be quite overwhelming! I suggest scrolling through the pages instead of each individual photo. You can click on the photo to see a larger version and order prints. Enjoy!

Orange Bowl Bound!

Sorry for the delay in making a post. I am definitely excited, but it has been a busy weekend with my Christmas party for work and my cousin Shannon coming into town. Anyway… Wake is Orange Bowl bound! They will be playing against Louisville on January 8th in Miami and the FedEx Orange Bowl. Less than five minutes after the game was over, I was already on a three-way call with my two best friends from Wake who were ready to make plans to go to Miami for the game. We are still investigating the ticket situation, so we will see what happens. Go or no go… it will be VERY exciting to watch. It is a year of “firsts” for Wake, so it would be nice to upset #6 ranked Louisville and take a bowl trophy back to Winston-Salem.

ACC Championship

I didn’t give a Wake Forest update last week, but they play at 1pmET on Saturday against Georgia Tech for the ACC Championship Title in Jacksonville. Wake has had a great season and should be able to come out victorius over GA Tech. I will be cheering them on. GO DEACS!

Congratulations to…

Jim Grobe (Wake Forest Head Football Coach):ACC Coach of the year

Riley Skinner ( Wake Forest Quarterback): ACC Rookie of the Year (by the way… he is from Jacksonville)

Happy Thanksgiving!

I wanted to make sure to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving. William and I are headed to Cleveland, where my parents live. My mom loves having people over for Thanksgiving and cooking enough to feed a village of 5,000, so she invited William and his parents to Cleveland and they accepted the invitation. William met some of my family members a few years ago when he came to Cleveland for Easter, but he was only able to stay a day. I am hoping this time I can show him around Cleveland a bit. This will also give his parents an opportunity to meet my extended family and make the upcoming wedding celebration much more cozy instead of a room full of strangers. It should be a fun few days while everyone is in town. All of my aunts, uncles and cousins, and grandmother will be there, along with some extended family and friends.

Well… I am going to head over to my sister’s house. Rob, Kim, Drew and I are all waking up with the roosters to catch a 6:45am flight. I think they call it the red eye, but it should be more like “shut eye” that early in the morning.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

National Adoption Day

Saturday was National Adoption Day, an annual event to raise awareness about the hundreds of thousands of children in foster care. Several cities throughout the country celebrate by setting up various courtrooms and organizing judges and attorneys to help finalize adoptions. I was invited by someone I work with to attend the court hearing to finalize the adoption of their son. I was quite honored that they invited me to share in their special day. There were hundreds of families there to finalize adoptions and provide loving and nurturing homes that these children need and deserve. The coutrooms were decorated with stuffed animals (which were given to each child and sibling) and balloons, and there was tons of snacks, sweets, fruit, and ice cream for all to enjoy. The judge in the hearing I went to was very kind and included the entire family, parents, grandparents, and siblings in the process, which was very touching. I really enjoyed taking a part of this national celebration.

p.s. Yes, I am sad Wake Forest lost, but they still have a chance to make it to the ACC Championship by winning in Maryland next week. GO DEACS!
