History is made, but did anyone notice?

Well to most peoples surprise, but not mine, Wake Forest shut out Florida State 30-0 and became 9-1 for the first time in school history! They also became the first team to shut out FSU in Tallahassee since Bowden has been coach. Unfortunately, I did not get to watch the game b/c the Texas v. Kansas State game was on (which I will talk about in a moment), but according to one of my good friend/classmate who called me late in the 4th quarter, the broadcasters were still not accpeting of the fact that Wake Forest has a good team this year. They were too busy trying to figure out “what happened” and “what will happen to Bobby Bowden”, which is insane. FSU has been struggling all season, nothing is going to happen to Bobby until he wants something to happen. While I am extremely excited about the win, I am even more frustrated that Wake Forest still won’t get any respect. My friend pointed out that Wake will probably still end up being the underdog in both the Va Tech and Maryland game, which sadly is probably true. Anyway… enough of my anger. Congrats Wake Forest! The players and coaches deserve the recognition.

Another team that earns recognition is Kansas State. Their freshman QB and 1st year coach led them to an upset over Texas where again the broadcasters kept predicting a Texas comeback. Kansas State played a GREAT game. It made me less angry at not being able to see the Wake game.

WFU v. FSU

At 8pm eastern on Saturday, William and I will have our eyes glued to ABC for three hours. It is probably a good thing that William is in Denver and I am in Dallas, otherwise things may get ugly. Florida State will be hosting Wake Forest in Tallahassee for what will be a crucial game for both teams. Wake Forest is trying to stay on top of the ACC’s Atlantic Coast Division with a win on Saturday. They are currently tied with Maryland for first, which if they can stay in the lead will allow them to play in the ACC Championship game. Wake Forest is 8-1 for the first time since 1944 and with a win on Saturday would make them 9-1 for the first time ever! Although Florida State is having a rough year and are currently not ranked, Wake Forest is the underdog for Saturday and FSU is looking to become bowl eligible. Wake has not won in Tallahassee since 1959 (17 straight games). So… the deacons will continue to attempt to make history, but it will not be easy. I just hope I am the one smiling at the end of the night 🙂
GO DEACS!!!

Picture Perfect

Since William was in town in route to Denver, we decided it would be a good opportunity for us to take our engagement photos. So…on Friday William and I took our engagement photos at the Las Colinas canals. I was excited about the location because it has great architecture and nice scenery for photos, but I had no idea how popular it was. When we first arrived, we spotted a bride taking her bridal portraits nearby, but as we proceeded to different locations we learned we were one of four or five couples taking engagement photos and there were also four or five brides there too! It was photographer alley, but there are so many different areas to take pictures that no one had problems maneuvering around the other groups. Despite the other groups, William and I enjoyed our time and warmed up to the camera more and more as we went along (or so we think we did). The session reinforced that we are are very pleased with our choice of photographers. The Dallas area has a wealth of great photographers to chose from, but William and I met with Sam Anise from Beaux Arts Photography and were both thoroughly impressed with his work. You can tell he is extremely dedicated to his work and has a passion for photography. Although we have not seen the photos, I think we are very confident that we will have lots of great photos and are excited to see the results of our modeling. 🙂

p.s. I am in the process of preparing a special post for the 8-1 Wake Forest Demon Deacons, but I will wait until the rankings are released. Go Deacs!

Happy Sweetest Day!

Ok… so most of you probably have no idea what I am talking about, but for anyone from Cleveland or Detroit, you may identify. My sister reminded me that today is Sweetest Day. Click on the link to learn more about it. Most say Hallmark invented it, but people in Cleveland treat it as a bona fide holiday. My sister was saying that she remembers in high school how you had the opportunity to buy a carnation to give to someone on the Friday before Sweetest Day. I failed to ask her if she bought any carnations 🙂

As William said, sorry we have been bad at posting lately. Work has been extremely busy, but we are going to try to do a better job of keeping up.

Leap of Faith

This past weekend, I attended a Leadership conference and ropes course along with 15 other community leaders. We participated in several icebreakers, teambuilding exercises and high and low ropes elements. In some respects, I was excited about the trip and the opportunity to try some of the elements on the ropes course. However, once there and staring at the obstacles in front of me, let’s just say the excitement started to wither away. The first part of the morning, we stayed on the low elements, which required a lot of teamwork and trust. The afternoon consisted of the high ropes. Even though I have been on two ropes courses before in high school and graduate school, I was still a bit anxious about trying these again. The first element I tried was the climbing wall. I usually struggle with getting the right grip and making it to the top, but somehow I surprised myself and made it to the top much faster than I imagined I would (after a few small areas of hesitation). Once you make it to the top, you get to “fly” back to the ground on a zip line, which was fun! The final high element of the day was the “Leap of Faith” pole, which is a utility pole that is approximately 35 feet high. In my

opinion, the “Leap of Faith” pole is a misnomer because in my opinion, the hardest part is not leaping from the pole, but making it past the last few rungs at the top of the pole and pushing yourself on to the top and standing on top of a pole with a radius that can only accommodate about ¾ of each of your feet. For me, it was more the “Climb of Faith” than anything else. I watched 4 people go ahead of me before I built up the nerve to give it a try. I climb the first part with no problem, but when I got to the last two rungs where you push yourself up on top of the pole, it took a few attempts (and a few prayers) to balance myself and stand up on the pole. Then it took another few deep breaths to turn around a face the trapeze. Unfortunately, I missed the trapeze when I jumped, but I was safe and secure in the harness and was lowered to the ground. Even though I missed the trapeze, I was extremely proud that I overcame my fear and made it to the top of the pole. (I will try to get pictures and post them).

Ironically, my experience today is similar to what Wake Forest now faces as they enter the second half of the season. I am thrilled that they are 5-0 and first in the Atlantic conference (the ACC divided the conference into Atlantic and Coastal). However, those who know Wake well know that the picture can quickly change. They should be able to win 2 or 3 more with no problems, but 4 of the games should give them a pretty good battle. After cruising to the top pretty easily, hopefully they will be able to pull themselves up the last few rungs and stand proudly up on top.

GO DEACS!

365 Days to go!

Yesterday marked 365 days until the wedding on September 8, 2007 in Dallas, TX! William and I are both in Memphis for his mom’s family reunion, so it was good to be with William and think about what we would be doing exactly one year from now. We are enjoying ourselves here in Memphis and I have had the opportunity to meet William’s aunts, uncles, and cousins. I had already met his grandmothers at the Cody Family Reunion. Today we will celebrate his grandmother’s 90th birthday! I know William will have several pictures to post from the family reunion when he returns to New Orleans.  If you haven’t seen already, William has posted additional pictures of the house on his flickr page and you can also watch the video in the previous post.  Stay tuned…

Home Sweet Home!

William and I are officially home owners! The closing went very smooth. My bank account is crying, but I am thrilled to have a beautiful new home. It’s the best money I have ever spent. I have posted new pictures on my flickr page. So now the long weekend of moving begins. I am moving tomorrow, mainly b/c my lease expires and I don’t want to pay for an additional month, but since the house is ready I may as well move now. It gives me the long weekend to unpack. My internet service here is suppose to turn off tomorrow, so I will be MIA for a while. I may not have internet service until sometime next week, but I will still have access to my e-mail via my phone. I will try to get an e-mail out as soon as possible with my new address. Thanks for everyone’s support during this process. It has been very exciting, but I am glad is is finally over!

Closing time!

It is official…. I am set to close on the house next Wednesday, August 30th!  I am very excited.  I am already making plans to move next Friday so I can take advantage of the long Labor Day weekend to unpack.  I am also excited b/c it worked out perfectly with my lease that ends Sept. 2nd.  I was hoping I would not have to pay September rent, so that worked out great!  The only thing that has not worked out so well is that DirecTV can’t come install my new dish until September 11th!  But, there is nothing really on TV during this time of year anyway.  I tried to take pictures yesterday, but my camera was out of batteries!  I will try to take pictures at the walkthrough on Saturday.  So… the next few weekends will be packing and unpacking for me and trying to remember to make all the proper contacts to change my address.  More pictures and updates to come! Stay tuned….
