1 week to go!

It has definitely not sunk in yet that we are only 1 week away.  After 18 months of planning, September is finally here!  My mother and grandmother are arriving in town today, my dad and William are arriving in town tomorrow and William’s parents on Wednesday, so I am sure it will start to sink in a little more as family and friends arrive in town.  Everything seems to be falling in place very nicely, so hopefully this week I can just relax and prepare for a day William and I will never forget.  There is a hurricane in the  Atlantic, but it is far far south, so it shouldn’t affect us here in the States.  For those of you traveling in for the celebration, I pray you have a safe trip and look forward to seeing you next weekend!

Mad

I was planning to make a post about the second anniversary of hurricane Katrina, but whenever I start typing I get angry. I think I will leave the TV off today. I don’t feel like watching politicians who could’ve cared less about the poverty/murder rate/government corruption in New Orleans before Katrina, and who haven’t sat foot in the city since the 1st anniversary, point fingers and give speeches. I wonder if any of the several Presidential candidates that are making appearances will actually have anything constructive to offer to the almost nonexistent efforts to get the city back on its feet?… You’re right, silly thought.

Random Post #3

Too much has been going at the lab for me to do anything that may be interesting enough to post about. I have a lot I am trying to get done before I leave for Dallas on Sunday.

I put a news section in the right hand toolbar. I will be linking some off-beat and tech news along with stories from some of my favorite columnist there. (Like the Ronny Thompson/Ball State mess which has been ignored by the mainstream media in favor of Michael Vick.) Take a peek every now and then when you get bored.

Did anybody see Superbad this past weekend? It has been getting really good reviews. I might try to see it next week with Kyllan.

I had some more random things to say, but I forgot.

I’ve been going through some old pictures for my mom. Below is one of my favorites.

Honeymoon!

William pointed out to me that I had not talked about the honeymoon on the blog and suggested I share where we are going, especially since some people have never even heard of this destination. Bright and early on the Monday after the wedding, William and I will be flying to the Turks and Caicos Islands for a week, which are a group of islands in the Caribbean southeast of the Bahamas and north of the Dominican Republic (map). We researched several locations (mostly in the Caribbean), but I really wanted to go somewhere neither of us had been to before and we could really relax on the beach and enjoy the first week of being married. It is not as well known as many of the other islands, but has become a popular destination for several celebs, such as Eva Longoria and Tony Parker who honeymooned there last month.

We will be staying in the island of Providenciales (Provo) at the Regent Palms in a 1,500 square foot 1 bedroom suite complete with living room, dining room, full kitchen and 1 ½ baths, so we will truly be spoiled!!

We really have nothing planned at this moment besides a couples massage and a snorkeling excursion. We plan to just enjoy being with each other and truly relax since the past few weeks of work have been really busy for both of us and so will the next couple of weeks.  So… we are praying the the hurricanes stay away for the next few weeks so our plans do not get interrupted although it seems hurricanes like to follow William and I, so hopefully this will be the exception!  We will definitely share pictures with everyone!!

Kyllan’s visit

Kyllan and I had a great time during her visit this past weekend. For the most part we just kind of hung out, but we did manage to get out a do a few things. The reviews were true, Rush Hour 3 was bad movie. But, it was also an entertaining movie. I wouldn’t recommend it, but I wouldn’t say don’t go see it. We were right next door for breakfast, so we decided to go to the Wings Over the Rockies Museum. The aviation museum is located on a former Air Force Base, Lowry, which is now a residential area. The original two hangers, which housed B-52s, were left standing after the base closed. The museum is inside one of the hangers. As always, pictures from the weekend can be found on my flickr.

Parent’s Visit

I had a good time with my parents this past weekend. We saw The Bourne Ultimatum during their visit. It was one of the best action movies I have seen in a long time and I will probably go see it again. I highly recommend it to everyone. We ate at Texas de Brazil Saturday night, which, if you remember, is quickly moving up my list of favorite restaurants. My mother gave me a stack of photos to scan for a slide show, which included a rare photo of me and my dad in his Navy uniform.

Where is this?

34 days to go…

***WARNING: GIRLY POST***

After several requests for wedding details (girly stuff), I have decided to give an update. I think I hesitated before because I was a but stressed, but I have gotten a lot accomplished the past few days (or at least it feels like a lot). The planning process is going well despite my freak-outs every once in a while about certain details. William is always there to quickly remind me that as long as the two of us and our parents are there, nothing else really matters. I went for my first dress fitting this past Wednesday and the dress fit perfectly (as the seamstress suggested). I feel I could lose a few more pounds, but I should be fine either way. I have another fitting in 2 1/2 weeks, so we will see. William still doesn’t understand why he can’t see the dress. He is not one for surprises, but this one he will just have to wait for. Other than that, I have been meeting with some of the vendors to finalize the details and things seem to be falling into place. I have been working this weekend to finalize the program and am almost done. The to-do list is still long, but I think I have all of the major stuff out of the way. I will admit that I frequently go to the knot.com message boards (although I have not posted a message before) to see what other brides are doing and stressing about. It seems to keep me sane when I see other people going through same excitement and sometimes stress of the process as I am.

We have already started to receive wedding gifts, which is very exciting. I have opened the first few we have received, but I think I will hold off on opening more until William can share in the experience of opening the gifts with me. A few people have asked about the registry and you can find this and other details on our wedding website, www.williamandkyllan.com. Oh, and if you had problems reserving a hotel room at the Hilton, let me know. We had to add more rooms to the block, so we should be ok now, but we need to make sure your reservation is in our wedding block.

Ok… so that sums it up, but if there was something else I was supposed to talk about, let me know.

*IMPORTANT: Don’t forget to RSVP by THIS SATURDAY (yes…even if you already told me whether or not you are coming). It is much less stressful when you have accurate head counts, so help me out!

Visitors

My parents will be in town this tomorrow. I have absolutely no idea what we are going to do. I’ve made some decent progress in the lab, so hopefully I can manage to stay away for most of the weekend…

Kyllan says that she would make a post, but doesn’t have anything to talk about. Any suggestions?

Random Post #3

Other than the site blowing up, not much happened this week. I have been busy in the lab, while Kyllan has been tied up at work and stressing herself out about the wedding.

I finished reading the 7th and final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I hate to admit it, but I enjoyed the series. Initially, I couldn’t believe that so many adults were so excited about a series of children’s books. When the 6th book came out, so many of my co-workers were talking about it that I decided that I needed to see what the big deal was and borrowed a copy of the 1st one. (This is where Kyllan would likely tell everyone that I was the kid that read on the playground during recess.) I won’t give any long review or anything; I’ll just simply say that I am glad I took the time to read the books. I hadn’t done any leisure reading since Katrina. It was nice andI think I am going to start setting more time aside.

My cousin Nikki posted some pictures of a family vacation to her flickr.

great picture

…And yes, I am still going to use flickr even though the rest of yahoo is dead to me after the whole “sorry your blog is gone… we don’t why… you should just start over, it was only a year old anyway…” deal. Flickr doesn’t actually generate any revenue for yahoo because of all the storage and bandwith, so it actually feels good to know I am costing them a little bit more money. I should have gone with a company whose sole focus was web hosting to begin with.

My parents will be in town this weekend and Kyllan the weekend I after that. I am really looking forward to their visits. I have two things I really want to get done in the lab before they get here. I should be able to pull it of… I think.
