Holiday Movies
Posted by William under Uncategorized
What are some of your favorite holiday movies? Classics? Are there any new Christmas movies coming out they you plan to see? My favorite Christmas movie is A Christmas Story. TNT airs a 24 hour marathon Christmas Eve. I have no idea how it started, but it has become a Cody family tradition to leave the TV in den on all day and let the movie play as we prepare for Christmas morning. Elf is a more recent film that I enjoyed. I thought Bad Santa was hilarious, but I think you can only call it a Christmas movie on a technicality. If you are trying to find that holiday spirit, this is not your film. (I think this was the last movie I saw in Ithaca. It was in the theater that I realized that I was getting sick… Long story.)
A few other favorites? Christmas Vacation, A Charlie Brown Christmas and… I can’t think of any others. What should I watch over the holidays?

Pingback from 1 year old » The Cody Report
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:26 pm[...] It seems like just yesterday that I was working on a presentation and looking for a way to procrastinate. The result, of course, was the creation of The Cody Report. 356 days and 116 post later, here we are. We’ve shared birthdays, made big announcements, given tours, taught you little about our family, and shared loads of photos. With 479 comments, it appears that our friends and family have enjoyed joining in on the fun. The most commented on post? “Man Post,” of course. A response to a comment I received off-line (you know who you are) about kyllan’s many workout post. #2 Was the holiday movie post. This all started out as an experiment. A year later, I would say it has been a big success. This site will be here for many years to come and we hope you continue to visit. [...]

Eddie Murphy’s “Trading Places” is the best holiday movie.

You have to go with the cartoon version of “How The Grinch Stole Christmas”

I’m gonna go with Lampoon’s Family Christmas…Hilarious!

Neil, “Trading places” is on the best movie ever list. Even when I flick past it on TBS at 1am, I can’t stop myself from watching.
Tami, Ask Neil about my springfest badge from senior year.
Joscelyne, I think we are thinking of the same movie, “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” with Chevy Chase. Another must watch, even when it’s not the holidays. There is a sequel, “Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie’s Island Adventure.” It has received horrible reviews.

There is a corney cartoon called The Night Before Christmas. A mouse breaks a clock that is supposed to get Santa to come to a town…..
That is my all time favorite.
I think that you can only see it on TBS or ABC Family now.
Also love National Lampoons Christmas Vacation!

I’m going with:
1) Trading places
2) A christmas story (”you’ll shoot your eye out kid”); plus the father had that sexy lamp.
3) From what I remember, I basically just watch those two all day.

I actually have Trading Places on DVD. One of the best purchases ever. I could wax poetically about Eddie Murphy’s movies (80s and early 90s only) forever. Man’s a genius.

I agree with all of the above. Trading Places is a classic just like Coming to America. William got me hooked on A Christmas Story. I didn’t watch it until two years ago, but now it has become a classic as well. I also like Love Actually. The young boy in that movie is cute and so funny, and I love the version of “All I Want for Christmas” that the girl sings at the end of the movie!

Kim P., this movie?
Jamaal, do you think that lamp comes in other skin tones?
Kyllan, Love Actually was pretty good.

Neil, you’re right, the man is a genius. I’ve tried but I still can’t get that laugh down.
William, I’m going to have to check on the alternate skin tones and get back to you.

For all of you who enjoy A Christmas Story, they just built a museum at the house where it was filmed in Cleveland. The guy who runs the museum sells the lamps with the girls legs. They were on the Today show about a week ago. I’m sure you can find the link to purchase one.

I like A Christmas Story and A Charlie Brown Christmas. I also like Garfield’s Christmas–the way their lips move when they sing *tee hee* Elf is funny.
It’s A Wonderful Life is pretty good (my husband’s influence) and I love dancing and musicals so White Christmas has become one of my favorites, too. I’ve never seen Trading Places. I’ll have to check it out.

Tami- When William and I were in Cleveland for Thanksgiving, we heard about the museum at the house where A Christmas Story was filmed! We originally planned to go, but unfortunately we did not make it out there. Hopefully there will be another opportunity.

To the Leg Lamp Lovers- We JUST saw that lamp in a store the other day, but I can’t remember where we saw it. Let me keep thinking and consult my better half!
William, That IS the show. It was just on TV last night too!
