Weigh Out

The weigh out for the 10 day challenge I participated in ended on Friday. I am happy to report that I did manage to work out 9 out of the 10 days, so I was very excited about that. I managed to lose 2.4lbs and 4 3/4 inches (combination of biceps, waist, hips, and thighs). According to my scale, I lost closer to 5 lbs 🙂 but I am just happy to see results period. I probably could have been a bit stricter with my “healthy meals”, but overall my meals were much healthier than usual. I even turned down desserts for 10 days! Ahhh! Don’t tell anyone I baked cookies for myself this evening 🙂 Anyway… I have established a workout routine and am improving my overall eating habits, so I guess you can say mission accomplished.

William Sr.

For those who didn’t already know, recently my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He recently underwent surgery in Detroit and everything went very well. His pathology report returned showing negative margins and negative lymph nodes. The tumor was limited to 10% of his prostate gland and he should not require any additional treatment. Thank you to everyone for keeping my family in your thoughts and prayers.

My parents did find a few minutes to stop by the Auto Show while in Detroit. My Dad has uploaded pictures his flickr account.

The Brazile Brief

Our good friends Kyle and Joscelyne “Jos” Brazile have decided to start a bolg, The Brazile Brief. They made a few post earlier, but had a few kinks and lost them. Everything is running smoothly now and I encourage you to stop by. I promise this will not be a repeat of the now defunct “Lewis Report.” The Braziles will be posting regularly on “curent events and conversations that take place in [their] home.” Fittingly, their most recent post is on the Bears win in the NFC Championship game.

Speaking of Neil, he has taken a step backward in technology and now claims to be starting a new blog, “The Neil Lewis Chronicles.” And since I am telling everyone about blogs; My not so anonymous cousin has moved her blog “This is My Heart” to “Slowly Emerging.”

You can find links to all of these blogs in the right hand sidebar under “Friends & Family”

Man Post

It has been brought to my attention that my recent lack of post have lead to the blog becoming “girly.” So, now I am making a post about a few manly things. Wake Forest plays Duke tonight at 7pm E on ESPN2. How ’bout those Saints? They do this every year; Build up hope in their fans, only to collapse at the last minute. I am not believer, yet. We will see what happens this weekend. Did Kyllan tell you guys that I moved two large piles of bricks and fixed a door while I was in Dallas during Christmas? My Xbox360 is broken and will have to be sent back to Microsoft for repair. I recently bought a DVD with a THX optimizer on it. The improvement in picture quality is amazing. What are your thoughts on the iPhone? I am not impressed. No 3G, still no 16:9 ratio screen, proprietary OS with no 3rd party OS, no tactile feedback on the keys, no downloading music or syncing over wifi and price. My parents were in Detroit this week (long story, that may or may not be explained later) and had a chance to check out the auto show. Hopefully my dad will post pictures to his flickr account soon… There, I covered the man interest trifecta: Sports/ feats of strength, AV/gadgets and cars.

Weigh In

So today was the “weigh-in” for the 10&10 challenge I wrote about in a post last week. I have been weighed and measured and ready to work out and eat healthy foods only for the next 10 days! Ahh! Those who know me well know that I love sweets, pizza, and chocolate, so this will truly be a challenge for me, but I feel good about it and am excited to get started. I am more excited about getting motivated about getting back in the workout mode, so I will be happy regardless of the results. Below is a picture of my weigh in buddy, Kacy (pic on the left) and also of Kacy and I with Jackie, one of the Turbo Kick instructors and the facilitator of the challenge (pic on the right). In order to keep William from banning me from blogging out of fear I will turn the Cody Report into a “girly blog”, I will not post daily updates.  🙂 I will just do a post after 5 days and then at the end of the 10 day challenge. Besides, who really cares how many celery sticks I ate or how I resisted the temptation to eat that chocolate chip cookie!  Here we go….

24!

I don’t know how William nor I did not post about this earlier, but tonight starts the 2-day, 4 hour season premiere of 24, the best show on television! I highly recommend watching it if you are looking for a new television addiction. Actually, if you have not been watching, you need to become a member of Netflix immediately and start renting the DVD starting from season 1. Warning: you will not be able to stop watching, so don’t plan to watch one or two episodes and then stop…it is truly an addiction!

p.s. Please do not make any specific comments about the show until after 11pmEST.  William is in Denver and it does not come on until 7pm Mountain time, so I don’t want anyone to spoil it for him.

Turbo Kick!

So.. yesterday for the first time in 4 months, I returned to the gym and began working out again. Yea me! I am really glad that I did because I have realized how much I enjoyed going to the gym and how much it helps me to relieve stress. I used to enjoy working out on the elliptical machine, but last year I discovered the turbo kickboxing class they have at the gym I go to, Lifetime Fitness (love this gym!). Not only is the class a great workout, it is a fun class and keeps me motivated to go to the gym and I never thought I would enjoy kickboxing. Yes… I know that somehow my motivation was lost for 4 months, but one of the reasons was that after moving, I am now 20 minutes away from the gym as opposed to 5 minutes. There are a few other reasons as well, but I won’t go into that now. The start of a new year is always a good time to start afresh, so I decided to go back to working out again. I hope now I will keep my motivation to go. I am already contemplating whether to enter a group fitness challenge to lose up to 10lbs and 10 inches in 10 days by committing to working out for 10 consecutive days and eating healthier foods, although I think the goal of the challenge is to develop habits and establish healthier eating patterns than to just lose weight. It starts next Tuesday. If I chose to participate, I will keep everyone updated on my progress. I doubt I would lose 10 lbs, but any loss is good. My goal is to lose 10-15lbs over the next few months and then maintain it from there, so if I can jump start it with this, that would be great. I have several clothes that are not fitting as well as they did before, so it would be great for them to fit like they did when I first purchased them. Not to mention that all important dress that I need to make sure I fit into on September 8th! However, it is more about getting in shape and trying to stay healthy. (WARNING: girly comment ahead) It is just me or does it seem like once you hit 25, all the weight begins going straight to your thighs! Ahh! Hopefully my body at age 27 will treat me a little better this year. I hope anyone else with fitness goals is successful as well! I definitely recommend finding a class you like and using that to motivate you. Classes keep you on a schedule and helps the time pass much faster.

Nothing

Nothing new is going on. It has been a busy week for the two of us. It always is after the holidays. My father posted pictures of their (my parent’s) New Year’s Eve party on his flickr account… Denver had it’s third storm last week. A few people asked about the avalanche that made the national news. No, I wasn’t effected. It was outside of town in the direction of a popular ski resort. Another storm is supposed to hit Denver this Thursday. Everyone claims that this is unusual weather. I think bad weather just follows me.

Orange Bowl

kyllan made a post about the Orange Bowl, now it has disappeared… Long story. Tonight Wake Forest plays Louisville in the Orange Bowl. The Demon Deacons are ranked #14 and are a severe underdog to the #6 Cardinals. Wake Forest, the ACC Champions, went 11-2 this year, but still get no respect. All week sports writers and commentators have been saying that Wake can’t keep up. They have been saying that since the game was scheduled. Actually, they have been have been saying that all season. If you don’t have any plans tonight be sure to watch the BCS Orange Bowl, 8pm ET on Fox.

I believe this is where Kyllan would say, “Go Deacs!”

Did anybody see the Fiesta Bowl last night? It might have been the best college football game I have ever seen. There were so many great plays that the highlights on ESPN just skipped straight to the last play of regulation. No one gave undefeated Bosie State a chance against Oklahoma. 22 points in the final 90 seconds. I thought the game was over at least 4 times. If you are a football fan and missed the game, check the Recap.

Update: Here is a great story about Wake Forest’s “Cinderella” season and why it is the best story in college football.
