Gator Bowl Blues

For over a decade the Cody men have gone to a bowl game on New Year’s Day. It started with going to the Gator Bowl our first year in Jacksonville, just to have something to do (1991). Then it was the Citrus Bowl in Orlando to watch the University of Tennessee play (1994; My dad’s Alma Mater.) There was a year or two of Cody family Gator Bowl trips, but after a rainy game my mom and sister decided that the money for their tickets could best be used shopping (I think that was 1996). Since then my dad and I have gone to the Gator Bowl every year. The only exceptions were a trip to the National Championship game in 2001 & 2006 when Kyllan came to the game. (My dad claimed he was on call, tired or something. I Think he just letting me spend more time with her.) We buy our tickets so early in the season that there is no chance of guessing who will play and we usually don’t know who’s side of the stadium we are sitting on until we get there. (We always sit in the same section and same row. After years of going, we know the perfect seats and buying tickets early allow us to get them.)

This year, because of the incompetence of Continental Airlines weather related issues, I will be watching the game on TV. I was looking forward to going to the game with my father more than I was my parent’s New Year’s Party.

Apparently my dad did take pictures at the party. I will post a link as soon as he uploads them.

What did you guys do for New Year’s?

  1. Happy New Year William and Kyllan. Our New Year’s eve party was fun. We certainly missed you both, and William if it is any consolation, your dad really missed you not going to the game with him. He invited family friend Ken Johnson to go. It was comforting to us to know that both of you were together for the holidays. 2007 will certainly be a memorable year. I pray that it will be a great year for both of you.

  2. Glad the party was fun. I know we both missed being there as well, but it appears the party will be an annual event, so we have many more to attend.
    Happy New Year!

  3. I went to Atlanta to see Carl. It was cutting it close because my flight was on New Year’s Eve, and I was to arrive in ATL at 10pm (this is after I left Sacramento at 7am to go to LA first and then ATL). Little did I know that this is the day when tons of delays occur and we literally sat on the runway for 2 hours for them to “fix the AC.” So I made it to Atlanta right at 12:20am. But the rest of the night was fun, filled with playing cards and catching up with old Xavier friends.

  4. I just got a 360, Reluctantly, but the “MEDIA Center Extender” functionality allows the Xbox to be my Central Entertainment device. Very NICE!! What is your X-Box Live Username? So I can chat with ya.

  5. Cherie, I see your previous comment…

Brain, My gamercard is on the bottom right of the site. my gamertag is Krimson Sandman. What’s yours? What games do you have? Gears of War and Oblivion are a must. I actually like Rainbow Six: Vegas a little better than Gears, but I think I ma in the minority.
