Fall TV

We received a request to discuss the shows we will be watching on TV this fall. There aren’t too may returning shows that I’m all that excited about. I’m concerned that several shows that I enjoyed last year may have jumped the shark. The Mentalist and Modern Family, however, are two that stand out as  returning favorites. Modern Family may be the only show that Kyllan and I both genuinely like and always watch together.  (I will usually watch Grey’s Anatomy with her and there are a few shows I watch that Kyllan describes “not as bad as the others” that she will watch with me.)

Of the new fall shows, I think I will check out Undercovers and Detroit 187. I wasn’t all that interested in Detroit 187 until I saw that it was being compared to the quasi-canceled Southlands, which I loved. I will probably also check out Law & Order: Los Angles. I feel obligated to watch Hawaii Five-0 remake after our trip to Hawaii. Everywhere we went tour guides were pointing out a location where the show recently shot or will be shooting. Kyllan, who is a big fan of Top Chef, has started watching Top Chef: Just Desserts.

TV guide has list of several new shows with brief descriptions here

A site with trailers for most of the new shows can be found here. Click the “view all” link at the bottom so you don’t have to scroll through each individually.

  1. Woo hoo! Thanks for the post. We also LOVE Modern Family. So funny! We will also check out Undercovers….looks kindof “been done” though. Detroit 187 looks way to stressful for me! We have Hawaii Five-O recording in your honor! We also watch Desperate Housewives, The Office (although it was stupid last year) and Parks and Rec.

  2. Undercovers is produced by JJ Abrams who did Alias and Lost, so it has promise. The premise is a lot like Mr. & Mrs. Smith though. Kyllan is a big Desperate Housewives fan… I’m not. The Office is one of the shows I stopped watching. At some point it turned into the Jim & Pam show and the jokes by Steve Carell just got to uncomfortable to be entertaining. I missed the first few episodes of Parks and Rec when it came out, so I just ended up not watching it. I’ll probably watch it whenever it is available for streaming on Netflix.

  3. William – What about NCIS and Boardwalk Empire? I’m a bit disappointed they were left out. First episode of Empire kept my attention so think it has a chance to be an interesting show. I’ll keep an eye out for Detroit 187.

Also, can’t forget about my guilty pleasure…Jersey Shore. I will refrain from any attempt to explain myself.

    1. We don’t have HBO. It lost out to NFL Sunday ticket, so no Boardwalk Empire. NCIS has long been one of my favorite shows. It was actually one of the shows that I was concerned about for the new season. Fortunately, the season premier alleviated my doubts. Detroit 187 was pretty good. The premier merits a season pass on the DVR.
