Man Post

It has been brought to my attention that my recent lack of post have lead to the blog becoming “girly.” So, now I am making a post about a few manly things. Wake Forest plays Duke tonight at 7pm E on ESPN2. How ’bout those Saints? They do this every year; Build up hope in their fans, only to collapse at the last minute. I am not believer, yet. We will see what happens this weekend. Did Kyllan tell you guys that I moved two large piles of bricks and fixed a door while I was in Dallas during Christmas? My Xbox360 is broken and will have to be sent back to Microsoft for repair. I recently bought a DVD with a THX optimizer on it. The improvement in picture quality is amazing. What are your thoughts on the iPhone? I am not impressed. No 3G, still no 16:9 ratio screen, proprietary OS with no 3rd party OS, no tactile feedback on the keys, no downloading music or syncing over wifi and price. My parents were in Detroit this week (long story, that may or may not be explained later) and had a chance to check out the auto show. Hopefully my dad will post pictures to his flickr account soon… There, I covered the man interest trifecta: Sports/ feats of strength, AV/gadgets and cars.

Nothing

Nothing new is going on. It has been a busy week for the two of us. It always is after the holidays. My father posted pictures of their (my parent’s) New Year’s Eve party on his flickr account… Denver had it’s third storm last week. A few people asked about the avalanche that made the national news. No, I wasn’t effected. It was outside of town in the direction of a popular ski resort. Another storm is supposed to hit Denver this Thursday. Everyone claims that this is unusual weather. I think bad weather just follows me.

Orange Bowl

kyllan made a post about the Orange Bowl, now it has disappeared… Long story. Tonight Wake Forest plays Louisville in the Orange Bowl. The Demon Deacons are ranked #14 and are a severe underdog to the #6 Cardinals. Wake Forest, the ACC Champions, went 11-2 this year, but still get no respect. All week sports writers and commentators have been saying that Wake can’t keep up. They have been saying that since the game was scheduled. Actually, they have been have been saying that all season. If you don’t have any plans tonight be sure to watch the BCS Orange Bowl, 8pm ET on Fox.

I believe this is where Kyllan would say, “Go Deacs!”

Did anybody see the Fiesta Bowl last night? It might have been the best college football game I have ever seen. There were so many great plays that the highlights on ESPN just skipped straight to the last play of regulation. No one gave undefeated Bosie State a chance against Oklahoma. 22 points in the final 90 seconds. I thought the game was over at least 4 times. If you are a football fan and missed the game, check the Recap.

Update: Here is a great story about Wake Forest’s “Cinderella” season and why it is the best story in college football.

Gator Bowl Blues

For over a decade the Cody men have gone to a bowl game on New Year’s Day. It started with going to the Gator Bowl our first year in Jacksonville, just to have something to do (1991). Then it was the Citrus Bowl in Orlando to watch the University of Tennessee play (1994; My dad’s Alma Mater.) There was a year or two of Cody family Gator Bowl trips, but after a rainy game my mom and sister decided that the money for their tickets could best be used shopping (I think that was 1996). Since then my dad and I have gone to the Gator Bowl every year. The only exceptions were a trip to the National Championship game in 2001 & 2006 when Kyllan came to the game. (My dad claimed he was on call, tired or something. I Think he just letting me spend more time with her.) We buy our tickets so early in the season that there is no chance of guessing who will play and we usually don’t know who’s side of the stadium we are sitting on until we get there. (We always sit in the same section and same row. After years of going, we know the perfect seats and buying tickets early allow us to get them.)

This year, because of the incompetence of Continental Airlines weather related issues, I will be watching the game on TV. I was looking forward to going to the game with my father more than I was my parent’s New Year’s Party.

Apparently my dad did take pictures at the party. I will post a link as soon as he uploads them.

What did you guys do for New Year’s?

Happy 2007!

Kyllan and I are headed to her sister’s to celebrate the coming of the New Year. My Parent’s are hosting what may be becoming an annual New Year’s Eve party. Hopefully my dad will post some pictures of the event.

Speaking of pictures, Kyllan received a new camera (from me) this Christmas. Pictures can be found on her flickr account.

Happy New Year everyone!

Merry Christmas!

To all our friends and family, Merry Christmas. Kyllan and I are getting ready to exchange gifts and then head over to her sister’s house for Christmas dinner. I will be sure to take a lot of pictures, and maybe a litte video. Don’t worry, I will include a picture of our first ornament. We bought it late last night 30 minutes before the store closed. It was slim pickings, but we managed to find one we both liked. It will have a place on our tree for many years to come. Next year spending Christmas together will be a planned event, so we will get started on the ornament shopping earlier. Merry Christmas everyone!

What Are You Doing For Christmas?

I really like keeping this blog. I like the idea of friends and family being able to keep up with what is going on, on their own time, day or night. Thanks to everyone that called, text, posted or just visited the site. This was no Katrina, but it’s was nice to know that I was on your minds. It’s been a day of helping neighbors dig out their cars and long treks over short distances. The plan is to head to Dallas in the morning. The expressways are now open and if conditions look good in the morning, I will be on my way. This will also be Kyllan’s first Christmas away from her parents too. I guess we will try to start some of our own traditions. Kyllan and I will be going to my parents house in Jacksonville for New Year’s.

So, you know our plans for Christmas. What are yours?

Snow

Denver is getting approximately 1inch of snow an hour with 20-30mph winds. I am supposed to be flying out to Jacksonville, but Denver International Airport is now closed.

Update: A state of emergency has been declared. My flight for tomorrow has been canceled.

Update: -9am 12/21- My flight is now leaving at 7pm, but I will have to spend the night in Houston and fly to Jacksonville on Friday morning. It is still snowing and the city is saying it will be another 24 hours before side streets are clear. I am not optimistic about getting out of here.

Update: -11am 12/21- It’s official. After 25 consecutive years, this will be the first Christmas I do not spend with my family. My flight has been canceled. It’s still snowing, the plows that were out have been recalled so the National Guard can move the abandoned cars that are blocking there path. The streets aren’t expected to be clear until tomorrow afternoon, when the airport re-opens. The airline says the earliest they can get me to Jacksonville is the 27th. I am still holding out hope that someone else will cancel their flight on Saturday or Sunday and I can book that… I didn’t make it to the first floor of my building, but there are a few pictures on my flickr page.

Update: -4pm 12/21- So it looks like Kyllan and I will be spending our first Christmas together. The snow has stopped and the plows are back out. Sitting at home by myself was not an option, so I will be driving to Dallas sometime this weekend. From there I will catch a flight to Jacksonville with Kyllan for my parents’ New Year’s Eve party. (She was already planning to go. ) It’s the same airline, but they would not change my ticket to Dallas. They wanted to charge me a bunch of fees if I did anything other than fly out of DIA or another small airport 194 miles away. It was cheaper for me to just cancel my ticket and buy a new one online. Yes, the online ticket was cheaper than what the rep on the phone could give me… I miss my family’s Christmas tree.
