Sorry for the lack of post recently. Kyllan has been really busy at work and I had a couple of rough days at the lab… Speaking of the lab, this move thing kind of snuck up on us. We weren’t planning to stop working this early, but the moving company called yesterday and told us they would be coming Friday to pack up everything. We spent all day breaking down equipment and separating out what was staying and what was going, only to receive a call at about 5:30 that they weren’t going to make it. Oh well. I should be getting out of here the 31st. I will be making a stop in Dallas to see Kyllan and then continuing on to Denver where I will move into an apartment I have never seen. With all that has been going on, I never made it up to look at apartments. My PI has seen it. He had planned to move to the same complex if he and his wife hadn’t closed on a house. It’s nicer and cheaper than were I am staying now, so I am happy. I’ll have to stop by Xavier’s bookstore before I leave and get some paraphernalia.

Another Weekend Gone
Kyllan was too down to post about Wake Forest’s loss to Clemson. In a rare nationally televised appearance, Wake allowed 24 points in the fourth quarter, blowing their 14 point lead and the chance to be 6-0 for the first time since 1944. Kyllan says it was fun while it lasted.
I spent the weekend studying, so I have nothing interesting to talk about. I did take a break to watch the Jaguars stomp the Jets 41-0!
…As usual, it’s late and I am still up. One of the benefits of staying up late is watching boring late night/ early morning news. No pundits, no perky talking heads and no media personalities telling me why their opinion is always right. Just a straight rundown on what happened that day. I was really caught of guard with breaking news that North Korea had successfully tested a nuclear weapon. Wow! That’s a little scary. It will be interesting to see what the response is like from the international community. (No, not the stern letters from the UN, but the actual response.)
Shhhhhhh!
Kyllan doesn’t want me to say this… She is afraid we may jinx it. Wake Forest is currently 4-0. Today the Deamon Decans play Liberty (who?) and very well be 5-0 by the end of the day. Wake Forest 5-0? In football? When was the last time that happened? Their schedule gets a little rougher after this weekend, so Kyllan will have to enjoy it while she can.
EDIT:Wake Forest is now 5-0!
…Today is the first football game Tulane will play in New Orleans since Katrina. Why aren’t we seeing all of the hype that the Saints got for thier first game back in New ORleans? I quess the Green Wave gets no love.
Crazy Atmosphere
Today marks the return of the NFL to New Orleans. Monday Night Football will feature the New Orleans Saints versus the Atlanta Falcons; the first professional sports game played in the city since Katrina. The lab is about two blocks away from the Louisiana Superdome and by noon there were already thousands of people arriving for the 7:30 pm (central) game. I left the lab early so that I wouldn’t get stuck in the craziness. Of course the media is all over this. Don’t worry, they will forget about New Orleans and Katrina tomorrow… Yea, football! Anything to distract people from the fact that little to nothing is being done to bring the city back and less than half the population or businesses have returned. There is was more to New Orleans than Bourbon Street and the Superdome. That won’t be the story on MNF tonight, though.
The Jaguars might have lost yesterday, but if the two teams are looking at the same glass, the Jaguars have to see it as half full, while the colts see it half empty. The Jaguars dominated the game, but made a few costly mistakes. We’ll get them next time. That salary cap is slowly catching up with the Colts. Edgerrin James, was just the first casualty.
New Fall Season
So, the new television season is upon us. What new shows are you guys excited about? Studio 60: Sunset Strip and Jericho seem to be getting the most hype. Kyllan was not impressed with the premier of Studio last night. I thought it was just okay. I probably check out Heroes and Friday Night Lights. Of course the best show on television, The Wire, has returned for a 4th season. I’ll be watching NCIS tonight. Kyllan likes Grey’s Anatomy. They get points for having multiple positive black characters, one whose back story includes attending Tulane for medical school, but I still don’t care for it… Can you think of another show with more than one intelligent black character? (Currently on the air, so the Cosby Show doesn’t count.)
MNF: Update
The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 0-9 on Moday Night Football in a hard hitting defensive game. It only took 3 and 1/2 quaters for the announcers to stop talking about how great Roethlisberger and Steelers are and acknowledge that another team was even on the field. Why is it so hard to get the media to respect Jacksonville? 12-4 last season people! One of the best defenses in the leauge. Maybe the best. Did they think last season was a fluke? Well, I guess they don’t now.
Monday Night Football
Just a reminder that the Jacksonville Jaguars will be playing the Pittsburgh Steelers on Moday Night Football. For those of you who don’t know, I am a huge Florida State fan and my father is proud University of Tennessee alum. Both teams suffered heart breaking loses Saturday. We need a Jaguar win to keep our spirits up during the rest of the week. At least we saw a Wake Forest win, Norte Dame get their butts whipped and Louisville stomp all over the Hurricanse (who stomped all over their mid-field logo during pre-game.)
In other news, I added a new link to the “Friends and Family” section of the right sidebar. It goes to the personal blog of my cousin Nikki. It is titled “…and this is my heart,” as in “I’ve always used writing as a way to share my thoughts and my heart.” She told me about her blog at the reunion.
If you are wondering, my friend Neil is now the proud father a healthy baby boy. He just hasn’t updated his blog since he left with his wife for the hospital. Maybe one day he will share some pictures… don’t hold your breath though.
That’s it. It was a pretty boring week and it looks like we have a few more ahead of us…
EDIT: Penn State defeated Youngstown. With the FSU loss, JoePa moves one win closer to the all-time I-A win record. Apologies to Kim P. for the omission.
Williams Reunion Wrap Up
The Williams family’s 30th reunion has come and gone. My mother has 5 brothers and 3 sisters, so once you add in my cousins and their children, the family is pretty large. As Kyllan said, this year at the reunion we celebrated my grandmother’s 90th birthday. I have added an overwhelming number of pictures from the weekend to my flickr account.
Tour
At the last minute I decided I wanted to visit Kyllan over the Labor Day weekend. It was a very exciting trip. I got to spend time with Kyllan, help her move into the new house and go to Drew’s 2nd birthday party. Before I get back to packing for my trip to Memphis, where I get to see Kyllan again during my mother’s family reunion, I wanted to make a quick post. You’ll will find a video tour of the new house below. I will post more about the trip and upload pictures to my flickr account when I get back to New Orleans. I guess I will also be making a post about the reunion and uploading pictures of that. Enjoy the tour!
One Year Later
I lied. As you see I have in deed made a Katrina post. This is all you are getting out of me… Below is a link to a six minute video about Xavier’s recovery efforts since the hurricane. It’s a quicktime clip, so it may or may not play in your browser. For those of you who know little about Xaver, read up.
