34 days to go…

***WARNING: GIRLY POST***

After several requests for wedding details (girly stuff), I have decided to give an update. I think I hesitated before because I was a but stressed, but I have gotten a lot accomplished the past few days (or at least it feels like a lot). The planning process is going well despite my freak-outs every once in a while about certain details. William is always there to quickly remind me that as long as the two of us and our parents are there, nothing else really matters. I went for my first dress fitting this past Wednesday and the dress fit perfectly (as the seamstress suggested). I feel I could lose a few more pounds, but I should be fine either way. I have another fitting in 2 1/2 weeks, so we will see. William still doesn’t understand why he can’t see the dress. He is not one for surprises, but this one he will just have to wait for. Other than that, I have been meeting with some of the vendors to finalize the details and things seem to be falling into place. I have been working this weekend to finalize the program and am almost done. The to-do list is still long, but I think I have all of the major stuff out of the way. I will admit that I frequently go to the knot.com message boards (although I have not posted a message before) to see what other brides are doing and stressing about. It seems to keep me sane when I see other people going through same excitement and sometimes stress of the process as I am.

We have already started to receive wedding gifts, which is very exciting. I have opened the first few we have received, but I think I will hold off on opening more until William can share in the experience of opening the gifts with me. A few people have asked about the registry and you can find this and other details on our wedding website, www.williamandkyllan.com. Oh, and if you had problems reserving a hotel room at the Hilton, let me know. We had to add more rooms to the block, so we should be ok now, but we need to make sure your reservation is in our wedding block.

Ok… so that sums it up, but if there was something else I was supposed to talk about, let me know.

*IMPORTANT: Don’t forget to RSVP by THIS SATURDAY (yes…even if you already told me whether or not you are coming). It is much less stressful when you have accurate head counts, so help me out!

100 days until the wedding!!

Only 100 days to go and I am definitely getting more excited with each passing day, although I will say I am even more excited about what happens beyond day 100 as William and I start our new life as a married couple. I was able to attend the wedding of my linesister, Courtney, over the Memorial Day weekend and it was beautiful. I had a great time witnessing the marriage of two people who love each other so much and spending time with my crazy but wonderful linesisters again!!(I posted pictures on my flickr account). It is kinda weird to see ourselves and our friends getting older and getting married, buying homes, and having children (congrats Joscelyne!), yet extremely exciting as we venture out into “new territory”. I wish everyone much success, courage, and happiness as we take those bold steps.

Gift Registry

This weekend, I made my first trip to Denver to keep William company for the weekend and celebrate his birthday (one week early). Besides getting a chance to see a few historic landmarks in Denver (pictures will be posted soon), go to a movie, see the lab, and just explore the city, we also had the opportunity to register for gifts for the wedding. Yes… we are a bit early, but we figured we would get it out of the way while we had some free time to spare in case our schedules conflict over the next few months. Our first stop was Bed, Bath & Beyond and since William is not much of a shopper, I figured he would start getting grumpy after just a short time there, but I was soooooo wrong. William was in charge of scanning the items we wanted included in the registry and he loved every minute of it…all 240 minutes of it… yes… 4 hours at one store! I have to say that the staff at Bed, Bath & Beyond were extremely helpful and suggested taking breaks to get food or spread the selection over a few days if we needed to, but we kept going. William made sure we didn’t miss a single row or item to consider. Combined with my excitement to create a beautiful and well-equipped home for the two of us, we ended up with a very extensive and thorough gift registry. We also registered at Crate and Barrel and Dillard’s, which took much less time than our Bed, Bath & Beyond registry experience. I think it was just that the store is so extensive and has almost everything you would need for your home. Well, before I begin sounding like a commercial, I will stop. You can check out our registries by following the link on our wedding website, or clicking on the highlighted links above.

6 Months Until the Wedding!

It is hard to believe a year has gone by since William and I became engaged and we are now just 6 months away from being husband and wife.  Wow… that’s even weird to type!  I still remember watching in disbelief as he got down on one knee in the rain and the huge smile that stayed on his face for the rest of the weekend.  We are both extremely excited and look forward to sharing our day with everyone despite William’s attempts on a weekly basis to grab our parents and 1-2 friends and elope! (Dont worry… it’s not happening).  The wedding plans continue to progress very nicely and have not attempted to pull any of my hair out yet :-).  You should be receiving your Save the Date invitations in the mail in the next few days if you have not already, and can visit our wedding website for additional details.  Hope to see you in Dallas!

One cute couple! :-)

William and I took engagement photos a few weeks ago and they are now available for viewing and purchase for anyone who is interested. Follow this link and click online proofs to view all the photos. I have to warn you that there are about 400 photos, so it may be quite overwhelming! I suggest scrolling through the pages instead of each individual photo. You can click on the photo to see a larger version and order prints. Enjoy!

Picture Perfect

Since William was in town in route to Denver, we decided it would be a good opportunity for us to take our engagement photos. So…on Friday William and I took our engagement photos at the Las Colinas canals. I was excited about the location because it has great architecture and nice scenery for photos, but I had no idea how popular it was. When we first arrived, we spotted a bride taking her bridal portraits nearby, but as we proceeded to different locations we learned we were one of four or five couples taking engagement photos and there were also four or five brides there too! It was photographer alley, but there are so many different areas to take pictures that no one had problems maneuvering around the other groups. Despite the other groups, William and I enjoyed our time and warmed up to the camera more and more as we went along (or so we think we did). The session reinforced that we are are very pleased with our choice of photographers. The Dallas area has a wealth of great photographers to chose from, but William and I met with Sam Anise from Beaux Arts Photography and were both thoroughly impressed with his work. You can tell he is extremely dedicated to his work and has a passion for photography. Although we have not seen the photos, I think we are very confident that we will have lots of great photos and are excited to see the results of our modeling. 🙂

p.s. I am in the process of preparing a special post for the 8-1 Wake Forest Demon Deacons, but I will wait until the rankings are released. Go Deacs!

365 Days to go!

Yesterday marked 365 days until the wedding on September 8, 2007 in Dallas, TX! William and I are both in Memphis for his mom’s family reunion, so it was good to be with William and think about what we would be doing exactly one year from now. We are enjoying ourselves here in Memphis and I have had the opportunity to meet William’s aunts, uncles, and cousins. I had already met his grandmothers at the Cody Family Reunion. Today we will celebrate his grandmother’s 90th birthday! I know William will have several pictures to post from the family reunion when he returns to New Orleans.  If you haven’t seen already, William has posted additional pictures of the house on his flickr page and you can also watch the video in the previous post.  Stay tuned…

I have a dress!

As you have already read in previous posts, my parents and William’s parents were in Dallas last week and it seems everyone thoroughly enjoyed their time here despite the triple digit heat each day and me running the moms all over town.  We made great progress on the wedding plans.  I now have a dress!  I am not sure how many dresses I tried on, but I would say close to 50 at the different bridal shops we visited.  This includes several dresses I tried on just for fun… no serious interest.  I seemed to have disapointed the salespersons at the bridal shops who were waiting for the “wow” factor from me, but despite what people may say… I liked the dress I chose from the beginning.  I had to think about it for a few days just to make sure it was indeed “the dress”, but I am very excited about the decision (Actually… I think my mom was more excited than I was).  My measurements have been taken, the dress is ordered, and I have been asked  by the stylist not to gain or lose any weight between now and September 8, 2006… we will see how that goes.  My thoughts are I will probably lose 10lbs since I am on my fitness kick right now and then gain them back later next year when I find excuses not to work out.

After 5 cake tastings, we also settled on a bakery for the cakes and I even found a design for the groom’s cake that William gave the thumbs up to (those of you who know William well know this is not an easy task)!

We are still undecided on a florist, but we have a bit more time to make decisions for that.  The major items are out of the way…bride, groom, ceremony location, reception location, photographer, cake and dress.  With a little bit over a year left, I think we are in good shape.

I am not sure who won the golf tournament my dad and William’s dad had going each day, but I think there was some fierce competition on the course.  It was good to see the Brown & Cody families come together and it appears there are already plans for another gathering, so that is great news.

So the planning continues as we approach the 12 month mark.  Make sure you are saving your pennies!  I think everyone will be in for a great celebration next September.

2 more days to go!

As I mentioned on a previous post, my mom and William’s mom are in town this week and have been accompanying me on the visits to the wedding vendors.  We have seen lots of good vendors so far…. I already have a few dresses I really like (although according to the stylists at the bridal salons, I am not giving them the “wow” factor), we have tasted many wonderful cakes and visited a few florists.  It appears that we will be able to begin making some decisions as early as tomorrow!  I still have several on the list for tomorrow and Friday, but we have made great progress!  So… that’s the update so far.  I will post this weekend to let you know what choices I made.

Gearing up for a week of wedding planning!

Well… the countdown continues…. and the hardcore wedding planning is about to kick in.  My parents and William’s parents will be in town this weekend and next week.  I have taken all of next week off work so that my mom, William’s mom, and I can visit wedding vendors until we collapse (just kidding).  I don’t know if the moms know what they are getting themselves into.  I can be quite indecisive at times, so when it came to narrowing down the vendors, I did the best I could, but I still ended up with about 20 different appointments while they are here.  This will include tasting wedding cakes, talking with florists and for the first time ever…. I will try on wedding dresses, which I am sure will feel very strange.  We will also look at possible rehearsal dinner sites, and let William’s parents see the reception site.  So… things are finally start falling into place, which would be nice because that we mean we would have the majority of the wedding planned a year in advance.  I will try to keep everyone posted on how things go.

In the meantime… progress continues on the house.  I have posted new pictures of the cabinets that went in today!  I was very pleased with how they look.  I will say that the pictures do not do the cabinets justice.  The color is actually a bit darker than the photos make them appear, but it will have to do for now.  This phase is very exciting because when you pick out colors and finishes at the design center, you still don’t quite know what it will look like in the house, so to see the choices come to life is great!  I am very anxious about the paint since you don’t know the true color until it is on the wall and it dries, but I am sure it will turn out fine.  The paint should be done by the end of the week, so I will post more photos then.  You can always check to see new photos on my flickr page.  The link to my flickr account is on the sidebar on the right side of the page.
